However, amidst the newfound charm, one nagging flaw persisted: the stark white bedside lampshades. They seemed out of place, devoid of personality against the room&#8217;s vibrant backdrop. Naturally, the only way to fix this was to upholster them. I had recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/CoNehWEjGbx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upholstered<\/a> a set of sconce shades &#8211; so how hard could this be?! Turns out, it was actually easier than I anticipated. With just a few simple steps, the lampshades are now infused with the same spirit that permeates the room . . . an instant upgrade!<\/p>\r\n<h2>You&#8217;ll need<\/h2>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>cotton fabric (busy pattern is preferable)<\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/go.shopmy.us\/p-5691336\">pleated lampshade<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+EIUW7aIj7GZEsE7smnhvSg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spray adhesive<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+oQGmOz5meR_N4cJp3fc9Qg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tacky glue<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/rstyle.me\/+ELKmLe2i_KuhGVRYQls4eA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fabric shears<\/a><\/li>\r\n<li>chopstick<\/li>\r\n<li>old credit card<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. You&#8217;ll want your fabric to be at least 2x the height of your lampshade and 3x the circumference of the widest part. Using your fabric shears, trim the edge of the fabric. You&#8217;ll want at 1-1.5&#8243; of extra fabric on the bottom of the lampshade.<\/p>\r\n<p>**If you are using a tapered lampshade, as I did, you&#8217;ll notice that you&#8217;ll gradually work upwards towards the top of the fabric given its shape. This is okay and you&#8217;ll need to trim the fabric about halfway through and start with a fresh seam. But don&#8217;t worry, you won&#8217;t see it!<\/p>\r\n<p>***Also, it&#8217;s very important to work in a well ventilated area, preferably outside.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"980\" height=\"1634\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade5\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade5.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade5\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Once your fabric is prepped, spray the spray adhesive on a small section of the lampshade. I like to start at the seam of the lampshade. Let the adhesive set for a few seconds before laying the end of the fabric along the inner crease of the seam. Run an old credit card up and down, along the fabric, pressing it against the lampshade.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade6\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade6.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade6\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade7\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade7.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade7\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Then, use the card to fold the fabric over the next pleat. I like to start in the middle section and move my way down and then back up again. This prevents the fabric from wrinkling.<\/p>\r\n<p>**If you see any wrinkles, quickly release the fabric from the shade and reset.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade9\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade9.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade9\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade11\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade11.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade11\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Continue working along the glued sections of the shade.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade14\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade14.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade14\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade15\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade15.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade15\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Fold the fabric back and spray on more glue to the next section.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade16\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade16.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade16\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade18\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade18.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade18\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Continue working each section. You could even use your fingers to help reinforce each section.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade19\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade19.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade19\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade20\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade20.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade20\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>If the shade is creeping up towards the top of the fabric, leaving less than 1-1.5&#8243; at the top, simply trim the fabric. Cut a straight line and then recut the edge of your remaining fabric so you&#8217;re starting with a squared off edge. Using a busy pattern help conceal this seam. Once you&#8217;re finished, trim the fabric in a straight line and overlap it with your starting edge.<\/p>\r\n<p>Let the glue dry for a few minutes before trimming away any excess fabric. Again, leave 1-1.5&#8243; of fabric on the top and bottom.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade22\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade22.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade22\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade23\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade23.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade23\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>To finish the top and bottom, cut between each pleat to create little tabs. Run a thin strip of tacky glue along the inside edge of the shade.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>Use the tip of a chopstick and guide the tab into each pleated section, pressing and pushing it until the fabric is flush against the shade.<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade24\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade24.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade24\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade25\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade25.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade25\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"lampshade26\" src=\"https:\/\/honestlywtf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/lampshade26.jpg\" alt=\"lampshade26\" width=\"980\" height=\"1633\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Repeat the step along the top. Allow the shade to dry completely.
